It'll run you about 75 gold and 24 Vision Crystals. Armour and weapons, you'd need to get through fractal dailies or some daily boss kills. As a F2P player your chance to get ascended from fractal dailies is less than a HoT player since you won't have the fractal mastery, but the chance is still there.

You can get the recipes from the tp and trinkets from living world currencies. That said, if you just want to experiment I would recommend going with exotic first, its much cheaper, and the difference is negligible unless you want to play high tier fractals (in which case, condi warr might not even be that good of a choice either).

The point is that you should have to work hard, experience & enjoy the whole game to earn Ascended gear, otherwise it would lose any associated prestige and would just become the new exotics (I.e super easy to get top level gear). Well you can but it will lose its precuror function. You can change its appearance via the wardrobe function if desired, which I would advise against given the higher chance to misplace the item or mistake it for a regular ascended. You can freely use either weapon in a build or loadout.

Strikes are how you get cheap ascended gear. Do your daily Ibs 5, plus eod strike. Buy ascended items with the blue shards. Do your return to achivments and you'll have enough for quite a few prices of ascended gear and you get an ascended weapon. Do the achivments for your class to get your ascended weapon eod ones are very easy. You can buy ascended rings of core stats (ex. Berserker's) from Fractal vendors. They require 10 Pristine Fractal Relics each, which you get 1 from each Daily Fractals chest. Those chests also have a chance to drop ascended gear boxes, the higher tier Fractals' chest having the higher chance.

If you spent 1% of the time it takes to get full ascended gear on the training golem and on some out of game guides (say around 1-2 hours tops), you will outperform everybody else in full ascended with your full exotic gear. If you want to run in blind with 0 clue of your class, build, boss mechanics, etc. full ascended will be less important
To be able to buy the T3-ascended gear you must have unlocked the T2-skin. And to be able to buy the T2 skin you must have unlocked the T1 skin etc. BTW: If you plan to build the Legendary with the T3-skin it is cheaper to buy the exotic version of the T2-gear to unlock the T2 skin. If precursor quality were to move to ascended quality gear : pre wouldn't be forged in a batch "by mistake". pre wouldn't be salvaged "by mistake". ascended materials would probably rise in price. one of the major drawback is that the exotic loot table would be completely f*cked up. However, how many of us had a precursor drop as a random loot
If you're still early on in the game, consider just sticking with exotic gear. As you play the game you'll just naturally acquire lots of the materials you need, as well as the money you'll need to buy anything you're missing. Ascended gear is nice, but it's only like a 5% stat boost -- it's not worth wearing yourself out for. .
